Handles, Knobs, And Pulls


A handle is basically a device with is affixed to the exterior and interior of a door (a car door, a door at the passageway, bedroom door etc which is used for the purpose of opening and closing the door. There are many companies that manufacture handles in many different shapes sizes and colors. They are generally made of metal since it’s meant for rough use.

In the United States of America, the door handles are not so commonly used in houses. They are found all over the world on cars though. Here doorknobs are very commonly used on doors. A doorknob is essentially a circular knob-like structure that is mounted on a door which is used to open or close a door. It differs from a handle since handles are only meant to provide a grip so the door can be opened but a doorknob also helps in locking the door.

They are generally round in shape but now they are available in different geometrical shapes and sizes. They also have custom-made doorknobs where you can find many different shapes from animals to musical instruments. Though round knobs are what is traditionally used since it serves the purpose well and it provides the right grip.

There are different types of doorknobs that are used for different purposes like entrance door knobs, passage door knobs, privacy door knobs and dummy door knobs. The entrance door knobs are used at the entrance door(s) of a building. These necessary are the kind of knobs which one can lock. They are generally chosen with the best design, shape, and color to suit the door since it can give the whole entrance a sophisticated look.

The privacy knobs are more commonly used for the door of bedroom or bathrooms. They are simpler and available with or without keyed cylinders. The passage knobs are used in hallways where they can be locked. The last but not the least comes the dummy knob which is not very widely used since it does not serve any purpose as such.

They generally are attached to the surface of windows with screws to enhance the look of the door. Pulls are similar to handles. They are used mainly on automatic doors that close on their own. They are just screwed to the outer and inner surface of the door so one can pull open the door. They also are available in many styles and sizes

The term abstract painting refers to a style of painting that was developed after the post-impressionist period.
