Pop-up Canopy for Portable Shade

Pop-up canopies are just what their name implies. They can be erected in just a few easy steps with very little effort.  Portable canopies are designed to take anywhere you need a stable, shaded living or work area. They are an excellent choice for those looking for portability, light weight, easy setup and attractive styles at a very reasonable cost.

The unique feature of the pop-up models is the permanent attachment of the canopy top to the poles. This aids immensely in quick setup and take-down. Heavy gauge aluminum or powder coated steel are normally used to create the frames. Telescoping legs are very useful for setting your canopy up on uneven ground.

Reinforcement at the foot anchors provides excellent stability despite their light weight. Take-down is as simple as releasing the leg pins or locks and fold the thing up. Most pop-up tents have their own storage bags and can fit easily into your car’s trunk.

These are mostly fair weather canopies. High winds or driving rain can quickly rip the canopy to so take-down during extreme weather is a must. You should try to get the strongest canopy top material available. This is the part that takes the most abuse from the elements.

Polyester is the most common choice for fabric tops. It comes in many colors and strengths. It’s water proof, fire retardant, UV resistant and comes as 250 or 500 denier polyester for strength.

Fire resistance is particularly important for pop-up canopies used at craft fairs, art and wine festivals or any other public function. Most communities have fire codes which dictate the level of protection needed.

Selecting a pop-up canopy starts with identifying how it will be used and any other special requirements.  Here are some key factors to look for:

- How much shaded area do you need? Keep in mind the maximum shaded area is only available when the sun is directly overhead.

- How many people will generally be under the canopy at the same time?

- Will you need additional space outside the canopy?

- Most pop-up canopies are relatively light at 50lbs. However, this can still cause a problem in lifting for some women or elderly owners.

A well made pop-up shade or garden canopy can last several years with care and protection from the harshest weather. While they’re often taken for granted, having shade on a hot day is often the difference between enjoying the outdoors or staying inside the house.
